Moi le problème, c'est que je finis toujours dans les derniers, c'est pour en profiter au maximum !
Du coup je suis un super testeur pour la distance de la fénix, si ça marche pour moi, c'est qu'on est certain que garmin a résolu le problème.
Et je peux vous dire que Garmin a encore du boulot .
Je trouve quand même 58km pour les allobroges, faut au moins être dernier pour trouver une telle distance

Je suis avec attention vos discussions sur la Fénix et je souhaite vous faire partager mes expériences personnelles. Je ne pratique pas le trail mais l'alpinisme au sein du Club Alpin. Mon expérience de la fénix est encore à ses débuts, mais je pratique le GPS quotidiennement dans ma profession de Géomètre (GPS avec une précision centimétrique).

Je pense que vous demandez beaucoup à votre fénix, plus qu'un GPS normal peut réaliser.
Je m'explique. A l'heure actuelle la précision des GPS standard sont de l'ordre de 10m en planimétrie et d'un précision indécente en altitude.

La précision de la bête est une corrélation de beaucoup d'éléments :
- le nombre de satellites au dessus (normalement 3 mini, pour mon job 6 mini)
- leur hauteur par rapport à l'horizon (les ondes rasantes perturbent le calcul)
- leur répartition dans le ciel, le fameux GDOP- PDOP (satellites regroupés dans un coin)

Il y a aussi les perturbations du l'environnement :
- la météo à peu d'influence sur la précision car tous les signaux des satellites sont homogènes.
- les masques, c'est à dire tous les obstacles aux signaux (montagnes, arbres, votre corps,..)
les arbres gênent beaucoup les calculs car ils corrompent les signaux

Il faut savoir que la majorité des satellites sont au "sud" (équateur), donc un masque sud est plus dommageable qu'au nord.

Pour résumer, le GPS a une précision de l'ordre de 10m en plein champ, sans arbres et la montre continuellement tourné vers le ciel, et sans trop bouger. C'est à dire que si vous laissez votre montre immobile toute la journée (sur plusieurs révolutions de satellites) vous aurez une trace aléatoire dans le cercle de précision.
C'est pourquoi vous trouverez toujours une distance Fénix plus longue que la réalité.
Pour simplifier, si vous enregistrez un point toutes les secondes et si au bout d'un seconde vous n'avez pas avancé de plus de 10m, pour le GPS soit vous n'avez pas bougé ou vous avez avancé de 20m.
En augmentant le temps d'enregistrement entre points, vous lissez l'imprécision.
De même, pour un même trajet (aller retour par exemple), il y aura autant de traces différentes que de passages (un trace différentes par constellation - calcul de position différent)

Quant à la 3D (l'altitude) , en GPS c'est encore difficile même dans mon boulot. Le seul fiable est le barométrique (si la météo est stable)

Pour ma part, je me sers de la fénix pour m'indiquer la direction et les passages obligatoires.
En alpinisme, il n'y a pas qu'un seul chemin.

C'est pourquoi vous trouverez toujours une distance Fénix plus longue que la réalité.

Ton discours s'applique à toutes les montres GPS (Garmin, Suunto, etc), et n'explique en rien le BUG spécifique décrit ici pour la Fenix (comme ça n'expliquait en rien pourquoi Suunto utilisait un algorithme basé sur 2*EHPE sur l'Ambit ).

Je pense que vous demandez beaucoup à votre fénix, plus qu'un GPS normal peut réaliser.

Merci pour ta participation, mais je ne considère pas que c'est demander beaucoup que de demander à une fénix de 2013 de m'indiquer à peu près les même donnés de distance que celle d'un GPS de 2008 genre 305 ou 310.
Il est évident que tout ce que tu as dit est bien connu de tout le monde sur ce forum et ce depuis plusieur années, mais n'a absolument rien à voir avec le problème actuel de la Fénix.

Pierre, peux tu mettre dans le site l'export du fichier profile de ta montre.

Il se trouve sur la garmin dans le répertoire Garmin\Profiles avec le nom du profil que tu utilises dans ta montre
C'est un fichier .gpf

A savoir la différence non négligeable de distance entre la distance donnée par la montre et la distance indiqué en pointant le dernier point de la courbe d'altitude.

Pas de différence, ou alors une différence négligeable chez moi entre ces 2 données Tomazi.
Sinon, j'ai effectué une petite sortie de récup de 55mn ce soir sur terrain plat avec ma fénix et ma forerunner 305 sur les 2 poignets pour comparer.
Verdict : 9.06 km pour la 305
9.12 pour la Fenix
soit 60m ce qui fait moins de 1% de différence, difficile de faire mieux.

C'est pourquoi vous trouverez toujours une distance Fénix plus longue que la réalité.

Ton discours s'applique à toutes les montres GPS (Garmin, Suunto, etc), et n'explique en rien le BUG spécifique décrit ici pour la Fenix (comme ça n'expliquait en rien pourquoi Suunto utilisait un algorithme basé sur 2*EHPE sur l'Ambit ).

Pour info aujourd'hui la fénix m'annonce un trail des allobroges à 58,1 km et 3953m de D+
Le parcourt tracé sur openrunner donne 54km et 385Om de D+.
Donc un D+ cohérent et une distance surestimée de plus de 7% ce que je trouve énorme!!!
Je serai intéressé par savoir ce que donne d'autres garmin genre 310xt ou 910xt, et surtout une Ambit pour comparer.

Cloclo a raison, même si j'ai cru à un moment que les données erronées de la pente de la fénix pouvaient avoir une incidence, sur la distance, en fait pas du tout.
Après tests, et essais, ce n'est pas les données 3D,le responsable de ce bug.
Et oui, il peut y avoir jusqu'à 10% en plus sur la fénix, que sur tout les autres GPS, malgré un tracé cohérent et surtout une longueur de trac cohérente!!!!

Elle fonctionne très bien cette montre.
Ce week end: trail de l'amethyste données organisateurs 40 Km et 1600 M+

Résultats avec la fenix: 40,17 Km et 1562 M+ !!!

Un coureur avait une 310 XT et, il avait à l'arrivée 40, 28 Km.

Alors désolé mais je maintiens, cette montre est très juste et fiable.

Pour appuyer mes propos. Sur ce trail de l'Amethyste.
J'ai retrouvé la trace du vainqueur : B.Beaume sur garmin connect.
Il a un garmin 310 XT. A la fin il obtient: 40,19 Km.
Sur 5 traces que j'ai trouvé (garmin 410, 310 Xt et fenix), ça varie entre 39,3 et 40,4 Km

Avec ma fenix et mes 40,17 Km, je suis pas mal, non ?

Et oui, il peut y avoir jusqu'à 10% en plus sur la fénix, que sur tout les autres GPS, malgré un tracé cohérent et surtout une longueur de trac cohérente!!!!

Comme je l'ai dit en MP, le problème est que ce BUG n'est pas systématique, certains l'ont, d'autres pas, peut-être même que certains avec la même montre l'ont des fois et pas toujours, etc...
Donc c'est extrêmement difficile à débugger et à trouver des corrélations avec les combinaisons firmware/GPS. Et je peux te certifier que j'ai rescruté en détail la trace gpx que tu m'as envoyé, et rien d'anormal n'y apparait. Donc ne comptez pas sur moi pour vous aider sur ce coup, et bonne chance pour collecter assez d'infos convaincantes pour espérer faire réagir Garmin.

Après une visite au QG de Garmin au Kansas, et suite à une réponse sur son blog au sujet des bugs récurrents de la 910XT et des capacités de Garmin à mettre toutes les ressources pour les corriger, DC Rainmaker jette à nouveau un regard subtil sur Garmin au sujet de ses manques de corrections de firmware:

"Looking at the buggy aspect and resources – no, they don’t have enough resources. Or at least, they’re structured in a way that makes bug fixes tough organizationally. They don’t have a “sustained engineering” team like many companies of that size in the software industry have that sits back and works on bugs, while the feature teams work on new products. Thus the choice is new product, or old product. Unfortunately, new product wins almost every day. The exceptions would be in cases where new product is so bad (i.e. Garmin Fenix) that it gets beat by competitive products (i.e. Suunto Ambit) – and that’s where you saw significant resources being pulled into Fenix…but, for a short period of time. Then that team got pulled over to work on Quatix (the marine watch based on Fenix)."

Encore HS. Tu suis la discussion, ou tu veux juste faire ton intéressant, parce que tu connais les basiques de la mesure GPS. Mais rien des micrologiciels embarqués dans ces montres, et qui peuvent transformer un super gadget en fer à repasser s'il est buggé

Pour te répondre mon cher CLOCLO, je suis suivi votre conversation car je suis aussi utilisateur de la fénix et que cela passionne de connaitre son fonctionnement. Par mon boulot, je sais qu'il y a autant de distance que de système de projection. Et comme je n'ai pu m'être de grille sur la fénix car absente de la liste, je pense que c'est une piste à suivre. Mais comme tu le dis, je ne connais pas le soft, je vous le soin de voir si sur votre logiciel utilise ou pas une projection.

Sur des distances typiques de trail (mettons même jusqu'à 100km), la terre peut être considérée comme plate, et le système de projection utilisé aura une influence d'au plus 10E-6. Alors c'est surement pas ça qui explique nos problèmes ici.

Tu as raison pour la sphéricité de la terre, la correction est de quelques centaines de mètres pour 100km. Par contre il y a encore une correction lors du passage du terrain au plan, car la projection Comique Conforme utilisée en France conserve les angles mais modifie les distances. La correction Nord-Sud étant plus importante que la correction Est-Ouest.
Si votre logiciel utilise les fonds de cartes IGN, il doit utiliser une projection sur grille contrairement à la Fénix. Mais, il est vrai que ces corrections ne sont significatives que pour de grandes distances. A voir.

Pour participer à la recherche du Schmilblick, du bug sur les distances, je pense que je me retrouve dans le cas de PierreMontagne.
Les distances sont très fiables que ce soit à plat ou en montée.
Une petite tendance à lègèrement surestimer, mais toujours inférieure à 2% d'écart par rapport aux autres GPS et données officielles.
Depuis décembre que j'ai ma Fenix, je cours à chaque fois avec 1 ou 2 autres GPS (keymaze et Twonave) à l'autre poignée, les disances comparées sont toujours très très similaires et l'acivation du 3D ne change quasiment pas les données.
J'ai regardé comme signalé par Tomazi, les valeurs annoncées par garmin connect et le dernier point de la courbe altitude, aucune différence avec la valeur annoncée par la fenix.

Ce qui est sûr en revanche, c'est que la puce GPS de la fenix ne reste vraiment performante qu'en terrain bien découvert (même avec la dernière mise àjour). En sous-bois ou avec des obstacles à proximité, la précision chute énormément et le tracé devient vite dégueu (d'où l'intérêt d'espacer un plus les points d'enregistrement pour éviter d'avoir un tracé d'alcoolique ).
Poser sur un guidon de vélo ou derrière le parebrise d'une voiture, la précision est similaire aux autres GPS (5-8 m de précision, jusqu'à 3m immobile en plein découvert).
Rien que le port au poignée, fait déjà perdre un peu de précision (environ 10m), alors si en plus on se trouve en sous-bois, il ne faut pas espérer avoir moins de 15m de précision.

PS : pour répondre un message précédent, il est possible d'avoir la vitesse et toutes les données que l'on souhaite (parmi les 90 proposées) même en mode navigation, il suffit de configurer les pages de données.

Pour ma part j'ai ce bug d'affichage sur la Fenix où pour les Allobroges il m'indique 57km, tandis que lorsque je regarde dans garminconnect et on dernier point de la courbe altitude distance j'ai 54.28km et 3918 de D+ ce qui me semble correct. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/315010178
Donc selon moi le bug vient du calcul dans la fenix !
J'ai aussi importé les données dans strava qui me donne aussi 54.3km pour 3979 de D+.
La différence entre de D+ entre les deux sites sont négligeables.

Voici le résultat de mes recherches du jour concernant cette question.
Le fichier .gpx issu directement de la Fénix contient la balise "TrackStatsExtension" qui stocke une synthèse des données du parcours.
C'est cette synthèse qui est affichée dans Garmin Connect ou BaseCamp. Et ce sont ces données qui sont affichées dans la Fénix.
Si on effectue un export de cette trace (via GC ou BaseCamp) cette balise "TrackStatsExtension" est supprimée du fichier, et la distance totale ainsi que le dénivelé est recalculé à partir des points de parcours.

Donc dans l'exemple ci-dessous, issu d'une trace .gpx de la Fénix:

Garmin Connect ou BaseCamp m'indiquent 34,32kms 1134 D+ 1105 D-
Si j'exporte cette trace (ou bien si j'efface du fichier toute la balise <extensions>) ça devient 33,5 kms 1130 D+ 1129 D-

Donc clairement c'est la Fénix qui calcule une distance et l'inscrit ensuite dans un champ de métadonnée du fichier, et ce champ, s'il est disponible dans le fichier, est ensuite repris par GC ou BaseCamp.
(bon j'ai testé plein d'autres trucs en comparant pour une même trace le .fit (converti en .gpx) et le .gpx correspondant produit par la Fénix. On se rend compte que les champs du .fit ont une précision plus grande (15 chiffres après la virgule pour les données de latitude et longitude contre 10 pour le .gpx produit par la Fénix). Pas de différence cependant concernant les distances totales calculées).

Conclusion : la Fénix doit avoir une bonne raison de calculer une distance qui n'est pas simplement la somme des distances entre les points de parcours.
Autre hypothèse : elle stocke dans sa mémoire interne un nombre de points plus grand que sur la trace .fit ou .gpx et calcule la distance à partir de ceux-ci, ce qui implique une surestimation par rapport aux autres logiciels qui n'estiment qu'à partir de la trace. Je n'ai aucune idée du matériel et de la mémoire utilisée dans ce type de montre, si quelqu'un a des infos je suis preneur!

Bon, plus sérieusement, bien, tu as trouvé le champ dans le fichier .gpx qui stocke la distance calculée sur la montre. Mais on est encore à des années lumière de savoir quel algorithme la Fenix utilise sur la montre pour calculer cette distance. Et d'après ce que je vois des fichiers .gpx dispo, il n'y a pas assez d'info pour faire un backwards engineering comme j'avais fait dans le temps pour l'Ambit:

Achat en decembre dernier, n° de série ? je l'ai pas sous la main, je regarde tout à l'heure, oui le kilometrage est identique et conforme pour moi en fin de courbe alti.

Au moins on comprend pourquoi il y a une différence au niveau de la synthèse entre traces .gpx identiques, c'est déjà ça.

Concernant le backward engineering, si la montre s'appuie uniquement sur le .gpx ou .fit pour le calcul ça ne doit pas être impossible. En revanche si elle garde des infos en mémoire sans les écrire ce n'est effectivement pas possible.
L'avantage de la Fénix étant qu'on peut directement récuperer les .fit et .gpx, sans conversion intermédiaire douteuse par un logiciel.
Pour le reste, il y a encore des choses à creuser et notamment des trucs louches au niveau de la conversion gpx->gpx et surtout fit->gpx au niveau des logiciels.
Le format .fit est particulièrement pénible car selon le convertisseur utilisé on ne trouve pas les mêmes données...
Et de plus les données diffèrent entre .gpx et .fit converti en .gpx issus de la même trace (les données d'élevation par exemple sont légèrement différentes, et ce n'est pas un problème d'arrondi pour ce champ).

Ah oui et je vais regarder aussi sur mes premières traces pour voir si ce "problème" apparaissait aussi avec les anciens FW.

Bonjour,
avant de se lancer dans une recherche de la méthode de calcul de distance de la montre, il faut savoir si c'est un bug localisé sur certaines montres ou sur toutes les montres.
Car pour l'instant toutes les sorties enregistrées sur garmin connect avec une fénix ont ce soucis.
C'est pour cette raison que je harcèle un peu pierremontagne pour avoir des liens garmin connect de sorties enregistrées avec une fénix et ou les distance en bout de courbes correspondent à la distance totale annonée sur la montre en format de sorite fit.
